St. Patrick's Reminder

Since Monday is St. Patrick's Day I thought it would be nice to remind you of this post from last year for Irish Soda Bread. There are a lot of imitations out there so remember the rules. If it has butter, eggs or sugar in it is not Irish Soda Bread it is some kind of cake by definition, most likely some variation of the Irish Spotted Cake. One more note: Corned Beef and Cabbage is not an Irish dish. Beef was never a big part of the Irish diet and you would more likely find some boiled pork wit

These are the best of the many shots we took of the puppies There are some wonderful brawling Irishmen pictures where they are attacking each other??s hats, faces, and if there had been a shillelagh handy, it would not have been pretty. Festive Food of Ireland

Happy St. Patrick??s Day! St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, responsible, we are told, for converting the pagan Irish to Christianity. He used the shamrock to illustrate how three separate leaves united by one stem resembled the Trinity. To this day the shamrock, the emblem of Ireland, is proudly worn on March 17th. Patrick??s Day, Ireland??s principal feast day, came as a welcome break during Lent in the days of austere fasting. As children we were all expected to ???give up?? something

Irish Passover

Irish Passover Happy Saint Patrick??s Day, y??all. I know that you know that most Irish don??t celebrate Saint Patrick??s Day like Americans do. ?In Ireland, the Protestants don??t celebrate it at all, the devout Catholics go to Mass, the signifying color is deep blue and papal gold??but here in the States, we hold parades and go on drinking binges and generally attempt to recreate every Irish stereotype held by WASPs in the 19th century ?? drunken, lewd, loud, and well-organized by mob bosses.?? Ghost of St. Paddy's Day past.

All the St. Patrick's Day hoopla happens tonight and tomorrow night, right?? I heard that because St. Patrick's Day, technically March 17, falls during Holy Week, celebrations are held the weekend before.? I'm not in a city with a huge Irish quotient.? I mean, per capita, there're probably lots and lots of Irish or folks who identify as such in Los Angeles, but this is not New York, Boston or Chicago in terms of a parade and that type of public revelry.? Instead, much like the masses turn out

QotD: Happy St. Patrick's Day!

How are you celebrating St. Patrick's Day? I can actually answer this! Usually, I do nothing. I'm not big on celebrating holidays as it is and I haven't many friends so sitting around and enjoying a frosty pint of ale or however I should be saying that, I'm not a drinker is just a bit depressing with just my husband. However! Tonight I'm going over to my sister's apartment and we're going to have corn beef and cabbage that she's making in the crockpot! I'm really excited to be going ove

Promoted from the diaries - K Being that my husband is from sunny..hatch that... rainy Donegal Ireland, I have been schooled on what is authentic Irish food and what is not. Case and point is the "traditional St Patrick's meal" of corn beef and cabbage. My husband had never even heard of corned beef until he moved to the USA. Ham and cabbage sure, but not corned beef and cabbage. Let's not get started on the green beer For a more authentic Irish meal I would go with my husbands favorite

Irish Soda Bread

After tasting this bread at a local bakery of mine, I wanted to try it out for myself. Since the holiday is nearly upon us I wanted to celebrate it in a new way. That way of course would be with food. I always have the traditional corn beef and cabbage, but I have never made Irish Soda bread. I found the bread to be moist, with a hard crust. Slightly sweet from the raisins with a slight sharp taste from the caraway seeds. Check out the recipe that I reviewed from one of my cook books at my s

I just really like this holiday -- I keep hoping that we'll find some Irish roots in our family that would underscore my affection and dedication for our traditions. In the meantime the corn beef and cabbage is in and we're all anticipating our annual green dinner tonight! Just got this cute virtual card from Jennifer at Strano ribbon which if you've never purchased Strano ribbon, you really haven't in my humble opinion experienced ribbon. Happy St. Patrick's Day! Ahhh...the day when everyone is Irish...lol Was there really a Saint Patrick? For sure, there was. Did he really drive the snakes out of Ireland? This is highly doubtful. After returning home to England, he had a dream that he was to preach the Gospel to those in Ireland. He spent the next 1
